Robert Chadwell Williams is Vail Professor of History and Dean of Faculty/VPAA emeritus at Davidson College, where he taught from 1986 to 2003. A resident of Topsham, Maine, he received his B.A. in Mathematics and High Distinction in Russian Studies from Wesleyan University (1960), where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. He received his M.A. in Russian Studies (1962) and Ph.D. in History (1966) from Harvard University. He then taught Russian history at Williams College and Washington University in St. Louis before moving to Davidson College as Dean of Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs. In retirement, he has taught part-time at Bates College.
