Maine Audubon Staff Naturalist Doug Hitchcox presents four sessions for Midcoast Senior College.
Identifying birds: There are 10,000 species of birds in the world—with 455 spotted in Maine—but which is the one you are looking at right now? This class will teach you the essentials of identifying birds: from beak to tail, we will teach you the things to look for when identifying birds.
Finding birds: You’ve got the tools, you know how to identify them, but where are they?! This class will focus on how to attract birds to your yard and how to find birds.
Bird behavior: When we go birding, we get a quick glimpse into the lives of those birds. This week we will focus on learning about bird behavior and analyzing exactly what it is birds are doing throughout the day.
Birding by Ear: Being able to identify birds by their songs literally adds a new dimension to your birding. This program will present tools and techniques for learning bird song. New this year, the program will also cover basics of recording and visualizing bird songs with spectrograms.
