We will examine and discuss the history and motives for the exploration of the polar regions, concentrating on the expeditions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  MSC. Limit 26.

David Wood is a retired Coast Guard Captain with sea-going experience in both Arctic and Antarctic waters. A native of Washington, DC, he has a B.A. from Amherst College, an Ed.M. from Boston University, and is a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College’s College of Naval Warfare. He has taught at the Coast Guard Academy, the US Naval War College, and Northeast Maritime Institute in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.
