Monhegan Island -- Here We Come!
Summer Excursion 2018
This year’s excursion will take us to Monhegan Island, a haven for artists, hikers, summer residents, and visitors from all parts of the country. The island is known for its natural wilderness and relaxed atmosphere as well as its unhurried pace. You might want to visit the lighthouse built in 1824, discover some of the unusual flowers that grow on the island, or check out the art galleries showing works by local artists. The Monhegan Museum of Art and History, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is featuring an exhibit of 70 works by some of our country’s most acclaimed artists. There are several places to lunch on the island but you’re welcome to bring your own. (Brown-bag it so that you won’t be burdened with a cooler as you walk around the island.)
CAUTION: The walk from the ferry to the village and from the village to the lighthouse includes steep inclines.
WHEN: Tuesday, August 21st, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (long day, but worth it!)
WHERE: We will meet our bus at the MSC building, 29 Burbank Avenue in Brunswick (at Brunswick Landing)
COST: $55 per person (Price includes the bus and ferry but not lunch.)
