Susan grew up in Aroostook County, earned her first wages as a potato picker as a youngster, and is a graduate of Colby College. After graduation, she moved to Aspen, Colorado, where she began her career in broadcast and magazine journalism. She was elected to the Aspen City Council and elected Deputy Mayor by her council colleagues. Later, she lived and worked in Romania and Macedonia as an international development consultant and also worked shorter stints in Jamaica and Suriname. Currently, she works part-time as an academic editor, specializing in English as Second Language work for European clients. Susan has over 25 years of experience in non-profits as a board member and president and a development/fund-raising consultant. She and her husband moved to Brunswick from Portugal in 2013.
