Sons and Daughters

Description

Chaim Grade’s, Yiddish novel Sons and Daughters depicts the power of religious tradition and cultural identity faced by the allure of the modern world in 1930s Poland. Grade’s characters show, with humor and heartbreak, the struggle of each generation to define its chosen path and the conflicts that ensue. As parents uphold their beliefs and lifestyles, transmitting the gift of stable, enduring values, how will their offspring adapt to the liberating challenges of societal change?
