I visited the ancient campground and fishing site on a sunny day, immediately after seeing Green Point. Lots of No Hunting and Posted signs. There was a waning sickle moon above the woods and fields. The fields are all mowed, but despite the mowing some Queen Anne’s lace and hawkweed have grown back and bloomed again. I saw one resilient milkweed too.
I wondered whether the early people who stayed here used fire to clear a large campground space, or how else they could have kept the fields open. I also wondered about their fishing methods.
There are lovely mixed forests around the fields, and a nice berry patch in one spot. I looked down to the water; there’s a sign saying that you need authorization to climb down. It’s hard to imagine a waterfall here (or at the Chops!)
