COURSE INFO
Instead of a formal syllabus and reading list, the course will be organized by focal points:
- April 9: Family, cultural and artistic background, individual accomplishment of N.C. Wyeth
(Click to Watch Recording of Class One Lecture) - April 16. Andrew Wyeth, how he is so similar to and different from N.C.
- April 23 Jamie Wyeth, benefits, burdens, and contributions to family fame.
- April 30 “The Other Wyeths”: siblings, spouses, complementary talents.
The plan for each class is that I’ll begin with a power point presentation, about half an hour, of background information, selected viewings, and observations, then after a short break, we’ll turn to class discussion of both individual works and general concerns. For these discussions, your thoughts and feelings, not mine, about the artists and their works, will be the main feature. ~ George Young
READINGS & RESOURCES
Instead of assigning specific readings and viewings, I would encourage you to Immerse yourself during the week before class in the huge number of images available online for that week’s artist. You can simply do a Google search for the artist’s name, select “images” and dozens, including the most characteristic and familiar, will automatically turn up.
