A cool, sunny September morning, just right for a walk. This class gave me the perfect excuse to climb down to the pond in the meadow and stare into it, which I have long wanted to do Deer prints in the dried mud; the pond is low of course in our present drought.
I have pictures which I may or may not be able to post of lots of plants, invasive and native, along the trail, including a fine stand of poison ivy and stag horn sumac.
The bay seemed to be at lowish mid tide, with lots of nice mud wild rice, arrowhead (I think), cardinal flower, other plants. We saw an osprey nest on a power line pole in the meadow, but the young are long since fledged.
Too bad about the invasive plants. The walking trail is well maintained, as you can see. I wonder who is doing the trail woe. Friends of Merrymeeting Bay?
