I went to Bowdoinham Wildlife Management Area in midafternoon September 16. Parked inside the outer gate and walked in, about 1/2 miles to Merrymeeting Bay. The access road is an unpaved gravel road, which opens to a meadow area just past the overhead power lines. The trail continues a short distance to the bay, and I got there about 2:25 PM. Did not observe any wildlife - probably not a good time of day for that. The bay appeared at or near high tide, as you can see from the attached photos. I stayed there 2-3 minutes, long enough to take the photos.
Returning from the bay, I stopped to observe a group of duck hunters, about 10-15 people, in the open meadow area. They were doing a dog training exercise, which was interesting for me - not a hunter - to watch for a few minutes. I chatted briefly with one of the men. The duck hunters drove their vehicles to the meadow area, so it's possible to drive there. But I wouldn't recommend it.
Beautiful photo! Thanks for posting and very interesting about the duck hunters. Too bad not to see any birds on this trip.
