American Sign Language

Description

Learn basic sign language communication, including Deaf culture, the manual alphabet, fingerspelling, numbers, vocabulary, sentence structure, and idiomatic phrases to enhance communication with deaf and hard of hearing family, friends, co-workers, students, clients, and customers. Previous sign language experience, textbooks and a dictionary are not required.

Readings

The instructor will supply all materials.

About the Instructor

Martin Samelson earned Certification in ASL/English Interpretation to perform his work at the Lexington School for the Deaf. He served as American Sign Language Program Director at Middlesex Community College, Edison, NJ, at the Lewis School, Princeton, NJ, and at The New School, Kennebunk, ME. He currently  serves on the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Maine’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children at the Governor Baxter School, in Falmouth.
