A Self-Guided Tour of Merrymeeting Bay

Merrymeeting Bay is an amazing inland estuary right in our backyards, but one with surprisingly little access. There are no roads to it and land access is very limited. This course presents a series of self-guided nature walks for five publicly accessible preserves that touch on the Bay. Each class presents a walking guide to a different site, including natural and cultural history, trail details, and directions to the site. Participants are then invited to visit the site on their own and, if they like, to describe in the next class what they saw, heard, and experienced.

Terry Porter is a Maine Master Naturalist and professor emerita at the University of Maine Business School. She is a lifelong naturalist and enjoys sharing her interest with others.
