UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, CURRENT EVENTS FORUM WILL MEET ON-LINE DUE TO CONCERNS OVER COVID-19. PLEASE EMAIL MSCOFFICE@MIDCOASTSENIORCOLLEGE.ORG IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
Midcoast Senior College offers a program, in partnership with the Curtis Memorial Library, entitled “Current Events Forum.” Throughout the year, meetings occur weekly each Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Morrell Meeting Room of the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick. Currently, this group meets on-line using Zoom. At each session, topics of local, national, and international concern will be introduced by a moderator. Attendees will be given an opportunity briefly to express their points of view. If you would like to be a moderator, please contact Richard Neiman: firstname.lastname@example.org
Meetings are free and open to the public. Current Events is a joint program of Curtis Library and Midcoast Senior College, and is sponsored by Thornton Oaks.
Moderators have brought thoughtful and challenging questions for the audience to consider, here are a few:
- The US today reserves the right to target enemies world wide, how do you view the legitimacy of premature strikes?
- Is unlimited medical care a right for all or is it a privilege available only to those who can afford it?
- Should US policy aim to increase the gap between rich and poor, narrow the gap, keep it the same, or ignore the entire issue?
- Is corruption more rampant today than ever? Where?
People of diverse opinions are welcome and all attendees are given an opportunity to express their view. The only rules are to share the floor and listen respectfully.
